Drainage works at Claydon A14 Junction

I received this update about the works at the Claydon roundabout. Good and environmentally careful progress.

Works to date:

  • Our daytime vegetation clearance works have been completed under the supervision of an environmental specialist without incident.
  • Our night-time vegetation clearance and drainage repair works have been completed on the eastbound exit slip road, again without incident.
  • The large culvert beneath the A14 north of Station Rd / Gipping Rd has been cleared of silt and detritus.
  • Our daytime drainage works in the centre of J52 roundabout have experienced some delays due to an unidentified cable located on the east side (Claydon) and nesting ducks on the west side (Gt Blakenham).
  • Re. the nesting ducks, they took up residence after the vegetation clearance works had been completed and before drainage repairs could commence. Following advice from our environmental specialist, all works have been suspended on the west side until the eggs have hatched, further advice will be sought re. the ducklings and their proximity to our works.
  • Please note that times for the off-peak lane closures around the roundabout have been increased to 5pm during the Easter holidays. When schools return on Monday 12 April we will revert to the earlier time of 2:30pm to avoid the school run.

Upcoming works:

  • Our daytime works are on temporary hold until the aforementioned issues have been resolved.
  • Our night-time works remain on programme. From Tuesday 6 April for 13 shifts we’ll be closing the A14 eastbound at J52 on weeknights only, diverting traffic off an back onto the A14 via the slip roads.

Lighting

The Suffolk Highways street lighting team have completed their site investigations and identified a potential cause for the outage around the interchange. I understand that repairs will be scheduled in the coming weeks but it is not clear if this will be a permanent solution.
