Getting the creeps at Woodbridge Library

DSCF0404 (800x533)

Woodbridge Library was crammed with children today for the presentation of certificates for this summer’s Reading Challenge. The theme was The Creepy House, and it was clear that a wonderful creepy time was had by all.

I’m proud to say that well over 300 children took part this year – a record number – and a record number – 212 – were able to finish

As well as presenting certificates, medals and special balloons, I also presented prizes to the winners of the Creepy picture competition and the Woodbridge Library Creepy Short Story competition which ran alongside.

As a finale , the children got the chance to look at, and handly a variety of creepy creatures, including snakes, a bearded dragon and a chameleon, courtesy of  Mr Bean’s Reptile Encounters!

Congratulations to all the children who took part – and to the library volunteers who gave so much of their time over the summer to support it. Huge thanks also has to go to all the parents who supported this scheme, enabling their children to take part

More cash for Woodbridge schools

FHS pupil premium

An extra £25,000? £75,000? £242,000?

A fascinating map shows how much extra cash each of our local schools is getting, due to the Pupil Premium initiative.  For example, this school year, Farlingaye has been able to claim nearly a quarter of a million pounds to provide additional  support to pupils from hard-pressed homes. Kyson was able to claim £75,000, and Woodbridge CP nearly £26,000.

Pupil premium, which is additional to main school funding, is a Liberal Democrat-introduced initiative which intends to address the current underlying inequalities between children eligible for free school meals and their peers by ensuring that funding to tackle disadvantage reaches the pupils who need it most.
